Snapper Schedule 2008 - 2009

The Snappers Swim Team is a growing team of young athletes ages 5 to 18. Practice groups based on experience, ability level, and commitment create a comfortable learning and training environment for swimmers of all levels from novice to elite. Each group has specific practice times and swimmers must attend the minimum requirement of practices for their respective group. Please speak to Head Coach Jill Brown to find out the appropriate placement for your swimmer!

Program Descriptions

Bronze Practice Group

Bronze: Novice Swimmers; Ages 5 to 8
Prerequisites: Ability to swim 25 yards of crawl stroke and 25 yards of backstroke. Or has completed Swim America station 7.
Program Focus: Learning and fun, perfecting all four competitive strokes, flip turns, starts, group activities and games, education in the area of competitive swimming.
Practice Commitment: Swimmers will work in a playful learning environment twice a week for one hour.
Competition Commitment: All home swim meets & league championships, eligible for all away meets & invitational meets.

Platinum Practice Group

Platinum Novice Swimmers; Ages 9 to 14
Prerequisites: Ability to swim 25 yards of crawl stroke and 25 yards of backstroke. Or has completed Swim America station 7.
Program Focus: Learning and fun, perfecting all four competitive strokes, flip turns, starts, group activities and games, education in the area of competitive swimming. This is a transition group created for newer swimmers with the primary goal of learning all four strokes & moving into the Silver or Gold group when appropriate.
Practice Commitment: Swimmers will work in a learning environment twice a week for one and a half hours.
Competition Commitment: All home swim meets & league championships, eligible for all away meets & invitational meets.

Silver Practice Group

Silver: Intermediate and Elite Swimmers; Ages 7 to 10
Prerequisites: Ability to swim at least 25 yards of all four competition strokes as well as perform a racing start and freestyle flip turn. Or has completed Swim America station 9. The swimmer should also have experience participating in structured swimming workouts.
Program Focus: Continued learning and fun, perfecting all four competitive strokes, flip turns, starts, group activities and games, education in the area of competitive swimming and training aspects. (i.e.: reading the pace clock, understanding intervals & sets, etc).
Practice Commitment: Swimmers will work in a learning environment three times a week for an hour and a half.
Competition Commitment: All league swim meets and league championships, eligible for invitational meets and USA Swimming Association meets.

Gold Practice Group

Gold: Intermediate Swimmers; Ages 11 to 15
Prerequisites: Ability to swim at least 50 yards of all four competition strokes as well as perform a racing starts and turns. Or has completed Swim America station 9. The swimmer should also have experience participating in structured swimming workouts.
Program Focus I - Swimming as a Life Skill: Continued learning and perfecting all four competitive strokes, flip turns, starts, group activities, drylands, and games.
Practice Focus II - Training for Junior/Senior: Continued learning & perfecting of all techniques, education in area of training aspects, group activities & dryland, increased yardage and intensity in preparation for moving up when eligible for junior/senior group
Practice Commitment: Swimmers will train three times a week for an hour and a half.
Competition Commitment: All league swim meets and league championships, eligible for invitational meets and USA Swimming Association meets.

Juniors: Elite Swimmers; Ages 11 to 18
Prerequisites: Ability to swim at least 100 yards of all four competition strokes as well as perform a racing starts and turns. The swimmer must have experience participating in structured swimming workouts.
Program Focus - Age Group Team: Fine-tuning all four competitive strokes, flip turns, starts, and drylands. This program is designed for the swimmer interested and committed to increasing their competitive swimming ability.
Practice Commitment: Swimmers will train three to five days a week for one and a half hours.
Competition Commitment: All league swim meets and league championships, eligible for invitational meets, competition in the USA Swimming Association League is strongly encouraged

Seniors: Elite Swimmers; Ages 13 to 18
Prerequisites: At least 13 years old with the ability to swim all four competition strokes as well as perform starts and turns. The swimmer should have experience participating in structured swimming workouts.
Practice Focus I - Training High School Team: Fine-tuning of techniques, building a yardage base for high school and post-season championship training, dryland and land cardio.
Practice Commitment I: Swimmers will train five or more days a week for two hours through November.
Competition Commitment I: All league swim meets through November and league championships, eligible for invitational meets, competition in the USA Swimming Association League is required.
Practice Focus II - Age Group Training: Fine-tuning of techniques, education in the area of training aspects, dryland and land cardio
Practice Commitment II: Swimmers will train five or more days a week for two hours.
Competition Commitment II: All league swim meets and league championships, eligible for invitational meets, competition in the USA Swimming Association League is required.
